4 BILLION MILES AWAY: NASA’s minivan-sized New Horizons spacecraft just visited the most distant object ever explored, a rocky, 20-mile-long object 4 billion miles from Earth called Ultima Thule. The mission was first conceived 30 years ago.
Say bye to the bull: The Dow Jones Industrial Average has plunged 5,036 points since its record high on September 20, 2018, poised for its worst December since 1931.

OPIOID DEATH: The Washington Post has reported, “a new study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association attributes 1.5 percent of all American deaths in 2016 to opioids. This staggering figure, which given the data used may be an underestimate of the true total, eclipses the deadliness of the Vietnam War during its bloodiest year. One in five deaths of young Americans, ages 25 to 34, are attributed to opioids.”
STARBUCKS: Starbucks opened its first coffee shop in 1971. Today there are over 28,000 shops spanning the globe. As the fringe right likes to say, that’s a lot of soldiers in the war against Christmas!
CANON’S LAST: Canon got into the camera business in 1933 and just announced it had sold its last film camera. This is the dawning of the age of the digital!
ONLY ONE GUN STORE: There’s only one place to officially buy guns in Mexico, and it’s on a military base. Yet gun violence is on the rise in the country. So where are the guns coming from? Mexico’s northern neighbor. An estimated 580 weapons illegally move from the U.S. to Mexico every day. Compare that to the 38 guns that the country’s sole gun store sells every day.
BARN WEDDINGS: A recent study shows that 15% of America’s marriages in 2017 were held in a barn. I can only assume the wedding was followed with a romp in the hay!
SMOKIN’: In power and politics there is great potential for smoke and we all know that where there is smoke there is fire. Mike Cohen is close to power and politics and there seems to be lots of smoke fuming off his buttocks at the moment. Stand back, he may burst into a raging inferno!
SUGAR TAX: Seattle collected at least $4,082,015 from its new tax on sweetened beverages in its first three months of implementation. The tax is 1.75 cents per fluid ounce.
NRA DONATIONS: Since the March for Our Lives event contributions have poured into the NRA. Like the Bible doesn’t say, “and they shall fear the gatherings of children.”
RISING DRUG COSTS: Californians have been notified that the cost of generic glaucoma drugs will rise by 64% and one asthma med will increase 50% on May 1. How can such increases be justified and explained?
