BJs vs. Pussy Grabbing, They Ain’t the Same

My wife and I were watching Rachel Maddow last evening and most of the segments had to do with the ever growing list of potential legal problems for Trump. At some point in the program I had to hit the pause button and let off some steam.

One of the major news is Trump’s affair with, and attempt to cover up, Stormy Daniels. He’s admitted paying her to keep quiet and we know he paid another woman $150,000 to keep quiet about their long-term affair. Stormy’s lawyer, Michael Avenatti, says he is now vetting two more women who claim to have had affairs with the Donald. Trump is well-known for his adulterous affairs and maybe better known for admitting he felt empowered to grab women’s pussies. Throughout his life Trump has appeared to have been obsessed with women and sex. He once told Howard Stern that avoiding acquiring a sexually transmitted disease was his equivalent of serving in Vietnam.

Let’s now turn to his lying. Trump has always lied and by all accounts but his own, is a compulsive liar. The Washington Post has kept track and claims that Trump has lied over 3,000 times since entering the White House. Other news sources have claimed that 95% of what Trump says is either misleading, partly false, or a total lie.  Regardless of who’s correct the truth is, Trump often doesn’t tell the truth.

There’s lots of talk these days about Trump being impeached. While I haven’t a clue it that will happen I can offer this. Bill Clinton was the second president to be impeached. In the late 1990s he was charged with two articles of impeachment; one for perjury and one for obstructing justice. The simple explanation is that while president he got a blow job and lied about it. We all remember the, “I didn’t have sex with that woman” statement. Well after it was proven he in fact did have sex with that woman it was proven that he had tried to get others to join in the lie.

Now I’m not trying to make light of the seriousness of Clinton’s behavior. It wasn’t presidential and it deserved more than a slap on the wrist. It was serious and for the evangelical Christian community it was enough to make their heads explode. Jerry Falwell, founder of the Moral Majority, immediately called Clinton an “ungodly liar.” Franklin Graham claimed that Clinton couldn’t be trusted to be truthful with the American people since he’d lied to his wife and daughter. Among the nation’s Christian right there was something resembling a lynch mob mentality.

When I hit the pause button last evening it was to ask, where is indignity of the Christian right over Trump’s behavior? Why aren’t the Bible thumpers marching in the streets of Washington crying out for Trump’s lynching? How can they be so condemning of one man’s sins and so condoning of another? While I know the explanations given by the pundits, I still have to both wonder and be astonished how easily people of God’s law can so easily rationalize. How easily they can resort to hypocrisy.  .

Okay, Clinton got a BJ, he committed adultery, he lied, he manipulated others, and he probably bruised a few more of God’s commandments. But how can Trump do all that in spades and become the darling of the Pentecostal crowd?

Quoting Dana Garvey, could all this be the work of, “Satan”?
