May 10th was the Spring Cleanup Day in Greenfield. I had never been in town during one of these events and had no idea of just how much unwanted junk was collected during the day. While headed for the post office we happened to drive by the collection near the railroad on South Washington Street. The village had contracted with a local refuse company to collect anything and everything dropped off and there was a constant stream of pickup trucks and trailers waiting to unload mattresses, furniture, tires, and much more. We drove back past couple of hours later and the line was just as long.
I don’t know who all to thank for this but I did see Ron Coffey, Ron Dudley, and Holly Ellinger on the job. Thanks to everyone who made this possible and to all those who took advantage of the opportunity to clean up their piece of earth.
