Random thought: Pickup games

When was the last time you saw a bunch of kids playing a simple game of sand lot or pickup baseball? Not to get into the back in my day thing but, back in my day there was hardly a summer day that we didn’t play baseball or softball someplace in town. Only place I see it today is during recess at the local Amish school houses.

  1. Wow, you’re right. I can’t remember when I last saw kids playing a game in a yard!
You could see the scuffed spots of four bases in our back yard when our boys were growing up. My husband mumbled about it but we loved watching the kids run, yell and just have fun. Too many leagues and teams nowadays… Gosh. our boys played outside all day. In the evening they would troop in and my husband would say, “Hey, you two polecats; head for the shower.” Our older son, weary of hearing it so often, would quip sarcastically, “Shower up!”
