Holden Beach Shrimp Burger Revisited

About a year ago I wrote an article about the shrimp burgers at Holden Beach, NC’s Provision House restaurant. Recently a visitor to the site read the story and ask about a recipe. While I don’t have such I promised to make one up, give it a try, and report back.

It just happened that I still had some frozen shrimp from the Holden Beach trip so I thawed and peeled a hand full, chopped half into small pieces and the other half into larger chunks. Placing the shrimp in a bowl I added an egg, some shredded Parmesan cheese, some chopped green onions, chopped sweet red peppers, chopped celery, sea salt, black pepper, and a few dashes of Tabasco sauce. I stirred all this together with enough flour and bread crumbs to bind it and using a large metal spoon scooped it into hot oil (350 degrees) and flattened each dollop into a cake.

After frying to a golden brown I placed each pattie onto a toasted whole-wheat bun and dressed with lettuce, fresh tomato, and a generous portion of a commercial roumalade sauce.

Since over a year separated the two experiences I can’t say if mine was better than the Provision House’s. But, I can say that mine got eaten and smiles abounded.

  1. Thank you Mr. Chapman. You have inspired me to go make these tonight! I asked you a couple of years ago how you thought they were made, so I am going to give your recipe a try. I’ll get back to you!
