Get Real, Anita!

Last week Rick Perry’s wife, Anita, went before the media and complained about how her husband was being mistreated by the press and his political adversaries.

“It’s been a rough month. We have been brutalized and beaten up and chewed up in the press to where I need this today,” she said. “We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative – well, there are some true conservatives. And they’re there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose.”

Well Anita, it’s time you get real and consider for a moment the realities of running for the highest position in the nation. There is nothing new or surprising about the vultures appearing the instant someone announces themselves a candidate for the presidency. You hubby is in a primary race with eight other people, each of them a predator seeking the top of the food chain. The 24-hour news cycle must be fed just like the Chinese and Irish laborers who built the trans-continental railroad had to be fed. And, reporters are today’s version of the buffalo hunters. They have to feed a hungry beast.

Mrs. Perry went on to cast blame on president Obama for things that began well before he took office and just yesterday insisted that it was Obama who was to blame for her son losing his job. The facts are that her son voluntarily quit his job so he could work in his father’s campaign. He works for a bank and pre-Obama existing law does not let him to be involved in politics. So, it was his choice to resign, not anything the president did.

Now look, when Obama, or any other politician, screws up, I’ll try being among the first to point it out and register a complaint. For example, I hold him directly responsible for keeping us involved in our foreign wars. I do not think his stimulus program was structured correctly, and I think he sold out in both meaningful health care reform and in punishing those responsible for our economy’s collapse. I’m not too happy with a number of his decisions, or lack thereof. Yesterday it was announced the president had authorized 100 American troops to become involved in the affairs of central African nations. I’m still trying to get around the stink that may arise from that one.

But, get real Anita. There are plenty of things you can whine or bitch about. Politics is a rough business and you and your husband have been in it for decades. Did you just discover politicians and media types are a tough crowd? Your son wasn’t fired or laid off, he quit! Obama has made enough genuine errors that you, nor anyone else, has to make up crap. Just try dealing with reality and maybe someone will take you serious.
